how to add a bike chain link without a tool?

My little brother has a bike but his chain snapped . so we bought him a new one . The new bike chain was to long so I removed some links with the tool . but i removed to many links and now it isnt long enough . i have the pins and stuff but i dont know how to add the pins back in without a tool which i dont have . is there anyway to add the pins back in easily without the tool? please help i really want to fix his bike

If the tool can push the pin out it can generally push it back in, but it can be hard to line up. On mine I hold it in position with pliers and turn the piece that pushes the pin by hand until it is tight. After this I get the allen wrench and do it the rest of the way. You can also buy a new pin from a bike shop cheaply that has a skinny piece to go into the hole so your tool is easier to use. After you push the pin in you break the skinny piece off. If you are have to go to the bike shop & buy the piece though they can just do it for you.
